When I married my wife now of more than 17 years I made more than just a vow to her. I made a vow and thanked her for my gifts with purchase like at Nordstrom’s, for bringing Kelli and Eddie into my life. I had been raised largely by my step-father Bob Dare, who not only got me interested in building pools but taught me street smarts. I have always hoped that someday Kelli and Eddie will have similar thoughts about me.

Kelli Emery is now a mature young woman who is entrenched in finding her way to a career. After a wonderful experience here locally at Los Alamitos High School she went on to USD. University of San Diego we coined the Country Club. It was a perfect place for Kelli to get an amazing college education and cultivate great friends and a passion for world travel. It is her amazing passion that Teach for America was looking for and recruited her to inner-city Dallas for a two year program. The idea is to help kids living in low income communities to understand that the way out of poverty is through higher education. What a great experience for Kelli to see how many in this country struggle with some of the basic needs. I’m so proud of her to have completed the two year program for she really came away with a much deeper soul.

Happily she is back in sunny SoCal to quickly land a job with the upstart Houzz. I’m sure you have been reading more about how Sunset was awarded the Best of Houzz for 2016. But I want to find out more from Kelli why she is passionate about her position and what her aspirations are within Houzz.

Did you know that Houzz has an open kitchen for its employees and a slide from the upper to lower floors of their building in Irvine to make sure their employees stay connected.

Cheers, JZ

A Note from Kelli Emery

Hi Friends of Sunset! I started working at Houzz in July and have been enjoying the new experience. I started as an Account Coordinator. In this role I worked on client acquisition by signing up professionals of the home remodel and design community onto the Houzz platform. From there I got to do marketing advising as I educated them on how to utilize the platform to enhance their own business. I enjoyed this position because I still was able to utilize many of my teaching skills I learned from Teach For America. After 2 months in my initial role I was promoted to an Associate Account Manager of Professional Development. In my new role I am selling our local marketing program to professionals already on our site. This has been a fun learning experience. Sales can be very competitive and I love games so constantly trying to keep my numbers at the top of the board is always thrilling for me. I also am able to really help professionals by finding a custom program that fits their needs.

Houzz is skyrocketing in growth and professionals are getting some really large scale jobs from the program so it’s nice to know I am helping these professionals become even more profitable. From here the sky is the limit. We have a great team at Houzz and the company is constantly expanding so I can’t wait to see what other opportunities may arise.

Cheers, Kelli
