Botanical Name: Alpinia Purpurata

From amidst the oblong leaves, the plant produces a thick, cane-like stalk that may be between 3 to 15 feet high. A 6 to 12 inch, cone-like inflorescence of shiny bright red flower bracts sits atop the stalk, which bloom with tiny white flowers. The cultivar “Pink” showcases pink flower bracts. The rhizomes and the tall stalk of the plant have a spicy, strong aroma.

Water Needs: Requires consistently moist soil; do not let dry out between waterings.
