Find Your Local Professional with Houzz and Yelp

Houzz and Yelp are two excellent sources to help you find a talented local professional. Both of these sites revolve around customer reviews meaning that you can hear input from prior customers to ensure that the professional you are hiring will meet your expectations. In this post we will explain both Houzz and Yelp before then highlighting the benefits of each site and explaining how they can help you find the local professional right for the job.

Yelp

yelpYelp has hundreds of millions of users per month, so most people are familiar with Yelp. However, about 40% of Yelp’s reviews are devoted to shopping and restaurants meaning that not very many people use the app for local professionals. This should not be the case though, as there are over 127 million reviews on app, about 13% of which relate to home and local services. This means that you can search for a local professional on Yelp and likely find reviews from previous customers detailing the good and the bad of each professional.  These reviews can help you be confident in your decision because professional service is almost always consistent – a professional who puts in due diligence on one job is likely to do the same on the future jobs and vice versa. Here at Sunset we are happy with our 10 reviews but some local contractors have up to 100! This goes to show that Yelp can be used for things other than finding food reviews and can help you find a local professional for any service you may need.

Houzz

Houzz is another popular site similar to Yelp in that it integrates customer reviews, but it is different because professionals can create their own pages to display their products and advocate for their service. Houzz is less oriented to shopping and food services than Yelp and more focused on home improvement with profiles from all different professions. Regardless of the type of home improvement you are looking for, Houzz has you set and a simple search can lead you to professionals displaying their products with reviews to match. Sunset is proud to say we have 18 reviews on Houzz along with 2 Houzz Awards for Best Service over the past 2 years. Houzz is an excellent app for any type of home improvement and can be great motivation to help you find the right professional and get started on that home renovation you have always dreamed of.

Yelp and Houzz are two great apps that can help you find local professionals right for your job. The integration of customer reviews allows you to ensure that you will be pleased with your professional just as the previous clients were. We also encourage everyone to leave reviews more often on Yelp, Houzz, or whatever else may be. You benefit when others leave helpful reviews so why not return the favor and review something you experienced for someone else.

Passion Is Key to a Meaningful Life!

When I married my wife now of more than 17 years I made more than just a vow to her. I made a vow and thanked her for my gifts with purchase like at Nordstrom’s, for bringing Kelli and Eddie into my life. I had been raised largely by my step-father Bob Dare, who not only got me interested in building pools but taught me street smarts. I have always hoped that someday Kelli and Eddie will have similar thoughts about me.

Kelli Emery is now a mature young woman who is entrenched in finding her way to a career. After a wonderful experience here locally at Los Alamitos High School she went on to USD. University of San Diego we coined the Country Club. It was a perfect place for Kelli to get an amazing college education and cultivate great friends and a passion for world travel. It is her amazing passion that Teach for America was looking for and recruited her to inner-city Dallas for a two year program. The idea is to help kids living in low income communities to understand that the way out of poverty is through higher education. What a great experience for Kelli to see how many in this country struggle with some of the basic needs. I’m so proud of her to have completed the two year program for she really came away with a much deeper soul.

Happily she is back in sunny SoCal to quickly land a job with the upstart Houzz. I’m sure you have been reading more about how Sunset was awarded the Best of Houzz for 2016. But I want to find out more from Kelli why she is passionate about her position and what her aspirations are within Houzz.

Did you know that Houzz has an open kitchen for its employees and a slide from the upper to lower floors of their building in Irvine to make sure their employees stay connected.

Cheers, JZ

A Note from Kelli Emery

Hi Friends of Sunset! I started working at Houzz in July and have been enjoying the new experience. I started as an Account Coordinator. In this role I worked on client acquisition by signing up professionals of the home remodel and design community onto the Houzz platform. From there I got to do marketing advising as I educated them on how to utilize the platform to enhance their own business. I enjoyed this position because I still was able to utilize many of my teaching skills I learned from Teach For America. After 2 months in my initial role I was promoted to an Associate Account Manager of Professional Development. In my new role I am selling our local marketing program to professionals already on our site. This has been a fun learning experience. Sales can be very competitive and I love games so constantly trying to keep my numbers at the top of the board is always thrilling for me. I also am able to really help professionals by finding a custom program that fits their needs.

Houzz is skyrocketing in growth and professionals are getting some really large scale jobs from the program so it’s nice to know I am helping these professionals become even more profitable. From here the sky is the limit. We have a great team at Houzz and the company is constantly expanding so I can’t wait to see what other opportunities may arise.

Cheers, Kelli

Our HOUZZ Professional Builder Profile

HOUZZ is your “House”

houzz

At Sunset Designers & Builders we are constantly working to improve our skills in designing and building projects. We are also working to market our services in a constantly changing industry.

As many of you may know, I have an additional company, Omnibeat, that specializes in Social Media Marketing. There is no doubt that the Social Media platform which started as a showcase for contractors, architects and builders to share their work has evolved into a great platform named HOUZZ.

It has become more and more frequent for potential clients and clients in the design phase to share photos with me that they have retrieved off of HOUZZ. This really helps clients express aspects of design that they like. Typically jobs are custom designed so we are able to take pieces from multiple projects and compile them together to create a one-of-a-kind custom design.

This can also become very dangerous because the photos that clients find and love on HOUZZ are often significantly outside of their project budget. “Champagne Dreams on a Beer Budget.” Often it is a job to bring back clients into reality, yet overall the HOUZZ tool is very productive.

We would like for you to take a trip to our Sunset Designers & Builders HOUZZ Pro Profile and give us your feedback. If you are a past client of ours we would greatly appreciate your testimonial in the form of a review posted to HOUZZ.
